Fatherhood²: Cbeebies Birthday Time WIN!
In case you missed it earlier (though I can’t imagine HOW you missed it – isn’t EVERYONE watching Cbeebies at 7am?!), here’s some screenshots of Robert’s card that I made him on the Cbeebies “Birthday Time” segment this morning – thanks for showing it so well, Sid!
My Year in Photos – February 13th – “Down on the farm”
For those of you who don’t have restless toddlers to entertain, the opening dates of local fams, parks, zoos and attractions probably don’t bother you too much. For us though, today being the first day that most of the parks near us are open for the year was a very exciting day!
We chose to head to Bucklebury Park Farm, which is quite near to us and thus reasonably easy to get to. What we hadn’t quite banked on was the freezing cold weather – no sooner had we walked out of the car, the snow started to (albeit lightly) fall… We still managed to have a lovely morning out with Robert, including feeding some lovely miniature ponies that you can see in the photo above.
My Year in Photos – February 4th – “I Googled my son…”
Good news – my order from the Google Store FINALLY arrived today, just 4 months after I ordered it! To be fair to Google, when I finally figured out the right way to contact support (there were several methods that didn’t work) they sorted it out pretty quickly, with the best bit being that they changed this baby vest to a bigger size, since Robert would no longer fit in the one I ordered!
Robert seemed to like it enough, as this picture showed – and best of all, I managed to get a photo of it before he covered it in dribble, as he is prone to do these days. Good old teething!
My Year in Photos – January 31st – “HOW MUCH?!”
Being a fairly quiet day (an increasingly rare occurrence in our house these days), we opted to go out for a nice pub lunch at the Crown at Playhatch – a very nice pub if you’re ever in the area. The decision was made easier by the fact that our oven has finally died (new one already ordered, thankfully) so our usual Sunday roast plans were scuppered. Anyway, on the way to Playhatch we stopped at Mothercare to get Robert’s feet measured, with the view of getting him some new shoes.
As predicted (he squawked last time we put his shoes on him), Robert’s feet have grown and he’s now a size 5F – so new shoes were needed. If you’ve never had the pleasure of buying kids shoes, you’ll not be familiar with the paradox for shoe pricing – the smaller they are, the more they seem to cost. These tiny things, for instance, cost around £30 – even though they will probably only fit the wearer for approximately 6-8 weeks. Good thing I bought a lottery ticket this week…
My Year in Photos – January 29th – “Building up to bedtime”
At the end of what has been a pretty fecking tiring week, I was pleased to come home and find that Robert was feeling much better, so much so that when I walked in he was treating his mum as a trampoline. For those not following my updates, we took Robert to the doctors yesterday to be told that he had not one but TWO ear infections, a bad bout of conjunctivitis, a cold and the ongoing teething issues. Hence why he’s been a bit of a grump lately. Having got him a variety of medicines and remedies, he seems to be on the mend now. I took this photo at about half seven, when he’d normally be fast asleep, but had decided he wanted to play with bricks instead. Having put up with him being grumpy all week, it was just nice to see him being so perky!
My Year in Photos – January 21st – “Superbaby!”
Apologies for the slight blurriness of this image. There was a MUCH better one, but I mistakenly deleted it while trying to Bluetooth it off my phone. Don’t even start me on the evil bloody uneraser programs, which tell you they’re free, show you the file they found, then want you to pay £50 to recover it…!
This was taken while we were trying to get Robert to bed tonight – a thankless task which is getting harder and harder, but is always a lot of fun too. Here Robert was running round the bedroom with a cuddle-robe acting as a cape! He thought it was hilarious…
My Year in Photos – January 17th – “Paint me a picture”
Well, as my wife just pointed out to me, I’m afraid I’ve failed a bit on my original promise – namely that my ‘Year in Photos’ project wouldn’t just be pictures of my son. My excuse here is that my weekends are understandably filled with spending time with my family. So if you don’t like it, I’m sorry, ha ha. This shot is of Robert doing painting with mummy this morning, which he enjoyed a lot. We didn’t really do much else today, so this was a photographic peak of sorts : )
My Year in Photos – January 10th – “Sitting in the doorway”
We decided to head over to Henley today, seeing as how the snow is on the move and the roads seem a bit clearer. Amazingly, very little was actually open in Henley today, so we ended up looking in a few shops and wandering down to the river for a few photos. But it was a bit too chilly to stick around in the open for long, so we soon headed home again. This photo is of Robert taking a pit-stop outside one of Henley’s posh shops, where he decided to pose for a few snaps!
My Year in Photos – January 9th – “Toys, toys, toys”
Rather than post yet *another* shot of the snow today (and believe me, I’ve taken LOADS!) I thought I’d choose a shot which represented our day much better. Namely, our trip to Toys R Us! Due to the aforementioned snow, it’s quite hard to get very far without coming a-cropper, so a trip to the Forbury retail park was about all we could muster – and after that we felt like we’d had a full day out! Robert was like the proverbial kid in a sweet shop, wandering round playing with every toy he could reach. We managed to bag some good bargains for his birthday in June, which is cool. Yes, our life really is this exciting : )
My Year in Photos – January 6th – “Twelfth Night”
As predicted by the red sky yesterday morning, last night saw snow covering much of the country, with Reading being especially well doused. Despite having to stay at work late, I managed to make my way down the M4 reasonably easily and by the time we awoke this morning there was a good 6 inches of snow covering our area.
Later in the afternoon we all went for a walk to the park down our road, which is where this photo of Sara and Robert was taken. There was some pretty impressive snowman-building going on, including one which was at least 7ft tall.
