Fatherhood²: The Panel Reviews… The Octonauts

July 14, 2013 at 10:26 am

Before I ask my parent panel to give us their opinions on some of the more serious or pressing issues affecting parents, I wanted to give them another chance to air their thoughts on some more children’s TV.

I offered them a few shows to choose from – the Tweenies in particular inspired a VERY strong response from most of the panel (parts of which I’m not even sure I could publish!!) but we eventually settled on one of my kids’ favourites – Cbeebies show ‘The Octonauts’. I’ve actually posted my thoughts on the undersea adventurers on a number of ocassions (“I love The Octonauts, but…“, “The Ultimate Octonauts Quiz” and “There’s No Place for Goodies and Baddies in our House” to name but three) – so I’ll spare you more raving from me. But I was pleased to find out my panel were slightly more even on the subject, some positive like me, some a little more critical.

Fatherhood²: The Ultimate Octonauts Quiz

As you’ll know if you’re a regular reader of my blog, The Octonauts are extremely popular in our household. With the US launch of the show happening this week on the Disney Channel, I thought now was a good time to celebrate our favourite kids TV show with a bit of a fun quiz.

So without further ado, here are 40 questions – some easy, some a little more difficult, some only for the die-hard Octo-fans amongst us…

Fatherhood²: My 10 favourite pre-school story books

February 11, 2011 at 9:37 pm

As a father, one of the most regular ‘slots’ where I get to spend quality time with my son (especially during the week) is at bedtime – subsequently, I’ve probably read about 90% of the bedtime stories in his short life so far. Therefore, I’d consider myself reasonably well qualified to recommend a few good bedtime stories to other parents.

Robert has a bowing-shelf full of books, but there are definitely a few which both he and I will go to most often. Obviously I can only rate the books we have, so this list is by no means exhaustive (please let me know of *your* favourites in the comments!) but hopefully it might give new parents a few good suggestions to start their collections with…

Fatherhood²: I love The Octonauts, but…

February 7, 2011 at 8:36 pm

Following on from my slightly contentious post about ‘Rastamouse’, I thought I should provide some balance by writing a little about one of the best things Cbeebies currently has to offer, namely Octonauts…

However, in order to stop myself from turning in to a jibbering blob of unbridled enthusiasm, I wanted to focus on the one disappointment I have with Octonauts – and other shows like it in the past. Namely, the speed at which the makers cotton-on to their popularity before ramping-up the marketing and merchandise machine.

[Yes! Finally I’ve managed to figure out a way to blog about both Fatherhood AND marketing at the same time!]
