My Year in Photos – December 10th – “A rare evening out”
Tonight we got to have a VERY rare evening out without Robert, thanks mainly to Sara’s mum who stayed at our house to babysit. Sara and I got to head out for a meal with some of our mum-n-dad friends, which was a real pleasure – we didn’t get home until almost midnight… that’s almost unheard of in our house these days!! : )
My Year in Photos – December 9th – “Look what I made daddy!”
Today at pre-school, Robert made two Christmas decorations for our tree – a snowman and a sparkly bauble.
I have nothing funny to say about that – I think they’re brilliant. I have a creative genius for a son : )
My Year in Photos – December 8th – “The road to the Mow”
Being a cold a grey day, I didn’t spend a lot of time outside today, for obvious reasons. My lunch-time walk went as far as Robert Dyas to by hooks (that’s just how I roll…) and straight back in to the warm again. Hence there wasn’t much time for spotting interesting things – so I’ve opted for a photo I took of the road approaching our shared-office building. I tried a few other ‘titles’ for this blog before I opted for this one – I’ll let you insert your own jokes here…
My Year in Photos – December 7th – “Cat under a hot plastic tree”
Here’s Holly, one of our two cats, nestled under our Christmas tree – a spot she seems to have taken as her own in the last week. Unfortunately, she’s sitting amongst some very fine-weave fabric which Sara put there to hide the base – a fabric she gets her claws stuck in almost every time, knocking various trinkets and baubles off as she wrestles with it. Ain’t cats brilliant?
My Year in Photos – December 6th – “Who is David Thatcher?”
Despite the silly title, I did eventually figure out that “David Thatcher” is presumably a clever play on David Cameron and Maggie Thatcher…. but it DID take me a few minutes to figure it out. My first thought on seeing “David Thatcher Education Snatcher” daubed on a subway wall was “hmm, that’s odd, must be about the student protests – I guess David Thatcher must be a local MP I’ve not heard of before…” : D
My Year in Photos – December 5th – “Christmas has officially begun”
Today we put our Christmas decorations up, following a trip to a lovely farm shop in Maidenhead and lunch at a VERY busy garden centre. Robert absolutely LOVED the decorations going up, though he wasn’t the most helpful helper…! Christmas has definitely kicked-off now, with the Advent Calendar going down particularly popular…
My Year in Photos – December 4th – “Bring me Salvation”
We decided to do some Christmas shopping in a nicer location than Reading today, deciding instead to visit Oxford. Despite it being just 30 miles North of Reading, and Sara having done her PGCE there way-back-when, I’ve not actually been to Oxford town centre for about 8 years. Spookily enough, we bumped in to a friend from our University days while we were there, making it an even more eventful trip. These Salvation Army musicians were playing Christmas carols, 1 door down from a bunch of students protesting outside TopShop. I know which one I preferred listening to!
My Year in Photos – December 3rd – “Facebook in real life”
While doing a bit of shopping in Tesco at lunch time, I spotted these Facebook gift cards. I’d heard that they sold these in the US, but hadn’t realised they’d hit the UK too. I guess I can buy my Farmville-loving friends gift cards to fritter away now….
My Year in Photos – December 2nd – “Insert snow photo here”
As the snow has finally reached both Chiswick and Reading, I spent my free parts of the day snapping many-a photo around and about. This is the church on Turnham Green – one of the obligatory shots I take every year when it snows!
My Year in Photos – December 1st – “The weather approacheth”
Having sat through a couple of days of half the country moaning about the snow, and keeping my fingers very tightly crossed, the snow finally hit us on Wednesday evening – this shot was taken just as we were going to bed, when the snow was falling quite heavily. Is it wrong to be excited about snow when you’re 31 years old? If it’s wrong, I don’t want to be right…
