My Year in Photos – July 11th – “Just monkeying around”

As Sara was spending the weekend away, Robert and I decided to head down to the park this morning, where we met up with Robert’s friend Poppy and her daddy, John. It was a fun morning of climbing, footballing, swinging (not like that) and sliding – with Robert showing a particular aptitude for swinging from bars, as he is demonstrating above. Slightly to John’s disappointment, he hasn’t managed to do a 360-flip *over* the bar yet, but we’re working on it…

My Year in Photos – July 10th – “Smile for the camera”

Today’s photo was taken this afternoon, while Robert and I were relaxing in the sunshine in the garden. I went inside to get the camera while Robert was playing with his cars, but as soon as I came out with it he ran in to the paddling pool and said "I want pic-pic. SMILE!".

We have given birth to a poser…

My Year in Photos – July 9th – “I’m monitoring you”

Tonight marked the first evening of a weekend where I am in charge – well, of Robert anyway. Sara is down in Brighton on a friend’s ‘Hen Do’, so Robert and I are home alone and planning an exciting weekend. The paddling pool has been inflated ready for tomorrow, we’ve got a trip to the fun fair planned for Sunday, so anything could happen. Though it most likely won’t. Should be fun though!

My Year in Photos – July 8th – “Underground, overground”

I took a very convoluted journey across London this afternoon, heading for the offices of LBi, where the IAB social media forum was being held. This involved getting on the District Line, then the Picadilly Line, over to the Central Line, then BACK on to the District Line (turns out I had my stations confused) and finally on to the East London overground line. During my journey I came across this sign, which I thought was a pretty nice oxymoron… It confused me, anyway!

My Year in Photos – July 7th – “Nice space-saving there”

I’ve spotted this a few times now, but only had my camera near me today – this is one of the best examples of nonsensical space-saving I’ve ever seen. I don’t know if it’s clear from the photo, but the clever folk at First Great Western have saved some space on a small ticket-office sign by abbreviating “TODAY ONLY” to “T”DAY ONLY” – using exactly the same pixels for the quote marks as they would have for the ‘O’. Genius work!

My Year in Photos – July 6th – “Kids equals mess”

Today’s photo should serve as a warning to those who don’t have children but are thinking of doing so. It is the scene of devastation and chaos in front of our TV, and believe it or not this is a lot tidier than it was when Robert went to bed. I’m sure my wife won’t thank me for putting this up, but this is what happens when you have children – your definition of ‘mess’ takes a radical new turn, or at the very least your tolerance for mess goes up a lot :D

My Year in Photos – July 5th – “There be a storm a-comin’”

I snapped today’s photo out of the car window on my trip home – thankfully the weather seems to have calmed down a bit this week, which is a bit of a relief. The clouds are drawing in, which probably means there’s a hot storm coming… *

* This guess is based on zero fact or meteorological knowledge whatsoever. Do not based any BBQ plans on this, trust me!

My Year in Photos – July 4th – “In an English country garden”

After the Abbotsbury festival the day before, we spent American Independence Day at my parent’s house in Somerset, where today’s photo was taken. Mum and dad have a beautiful garden, which Robert loves to explore and play in – though he was quite disappointed to find the Alpacas which usually live in the field at the back of their house had disappeared. "Where pacpac go Daddy?" he said, over and over – he didn’t seem too impressed with the chickens inhabiting the field in their absence. That’s the trouble with Alpacas in the back field – they’re very hard to top!

My Year in Photos – July 3rd – “That’s some impressive spit!”

We spent the afternoon today at the Abbotsbury Sub-tropical gardens down in Dorset, attending the ‘Show of Hands Summer Family Festival’ (or something like that). It’s basically a mini festival featuring folk group Show of Hands and a number of other acts, including Ade Edmondson and his group the Bad Shepherds.

As well as the bands and the beautiful gardens, the Abbotsbury gardens are very near to Chesil Beach, which you can see very well from the hill at the top of the gardens – as you can see in today’s photo. You can also see down to the Abbotsbury Swannery, though my zoom lens wasn’t that good on this occasion!

My Year in Photos – July 2nd – “Matt the Hat strikes again”

As I drove home from work today, I spent large parts of the journey behind the car pictured above.

Despite staring at his car for a good hour or so, I still have no idea what ‘Matt the Hat’ actually does – assuming he DOES anything, and isn’t just trying to make friends by putting his phone number on his car of course. Has he never heard of Facebook?!
