My Year in Photos – May 22nd – “It’s paddling time!”

May 22, 2010 at 6:53 pm

Summer (or at least Spring) seems to have finally begun, so we brought the paddling pool out of the garage and filled it up this morning. Robert and I also headed to Mothercare while Sara was cleaning the house (I think I got the better deal there…!) and bought Robert a slightly early birthday present – the sand and play table you can see in the picture. Needless to say, Robert absolutely loves it, so it seems to be money well spent so far. Tomorrow looks set to be lovely too, so hopefully we’ll get some more use out of it then too.

My Year in Photos – May 21st – “I am officially old”

May 21, 2010 at 7:37 pm

Yep, it’s finally official – I have turned in to an old man. Today’s photo was taken as a result of a very sad situation…

The ice cream van you see pictured visits our street on a regular basis, and has taken (in the past few weeks) to coming after 8pm at night. Annoyingly, he plays the (very old) ‘Match of the Day’ theme from his speakers at a ridiculously loud volume as he does so, driving right past my sleeping son’s bedroom. I’m guessing that this wouldn’t annoy most people, but my wife an I find this extremely rude – we’re pretty sure it’s a violation of his license in fact. Hence taking the photo.

Right, I’d better go and find my slippers and pipe…

My Year in Photos – May 20th – “Treading the pavements”

May 20, 2010 at 7:21 pm

I passed this motley crew while walking to the office this morning – they appeared to be filming what I believe they call a “piece to camera”, though the camera they were using didn’t seem to be particularly TV-like. In fact, it looked just like a nice SLR still camera – albeit on a VERY expensive-looking body-mounted stabiliser thingy. I have no idea what they were doing, and they looked studenty-enough that I didn’t bother to stop and ask.

It wasn’t actually the most interesting thing I saw today – that would be the forensic team dusting a bashed-up car for prints outside the police station. I was a bit hesitant to stop and take a photo of that, though, fearing I might incriminate myself in some way or other. Now THAT would make for an interesting update I guess…

My Year in Photos – May 19th – “It’s @JustinPearse on the telly!”

May 19, 2010 at 7:43 pm

In my admittedly-limited experience, seeing somebody you know on the television *never* gets boring, so it was with some excitement today that I noticed New Media Age Magazine’s Justin Pearse, full-size on our office TV. Justin was being interviewed by the BBC News folk about the ‘Internet Use’ study which was released by UKOM today, and did a super job – though my attempts at capturing a photo of him only turned out photo after photo of him seemingly asleep. Oh well, it’s probably funnier like that anyway, so who am I to complain?!

My Year in Photos – May 18th – “The Elephant parade”

May 18, 2010 at 7:23 pm

I got a chance to explore a bit more of (overground) London today, walking between two meetings that were an hour apart. I headed to my second meeting via a number of locations, and at quite a few of them I came across these baby elephant statues. I checked it out on the internet when I got home – here’s the explanation: “The London Elephant Parade 2010 will see the capital taken over by 260 life-size baby elephants, all hand-painted by an assortment of established and emerging talent from the art and design world.”

My Year in Photos – May 17th – “Get ready for more cake…”

May 17, 2010 at 7:10 pm

I was out taking a stroll down Chiswick Highroad this lunch time, when I chanced upon a very exciting sight – a new ‘artisan bakery’ being fitted in what was once a Clinton’s Cards. I don’t think anyone can argue that a shop that sells cakes and baked goods can only be a great thing!

My Year in Photos – May 16th – “Is that your son in the water?”

May 16, 2010 at 7:57 pm

Today’s photo was taken in the lovely setting of Bristol Zoo, where we spent the day with my parents, Lucy and Neil – and an excellent day out it was too. The photo itself was taken in the “Penguins and Seal Coasts” section, where you can walk through a very large glass tunnel underneath what appeared to be an empty seal tank! :D And yes, that is Robert in the window in the middle of the photo.

My Year in Photos – May 15th – “That isn’t an abbey!”

May 16, 2010 at 7:53 pm

We spent most of today in Tintern, which appears to be a bit of a one horse town which just happens to have a MASSIVE (albeit ruined) abbey in it’s midst. We were in Tintern to celebrate my aunty Pat’s 70th birthday, which we did at the very-pleasant Tintern Abbey Hotel – which is where this photo was taken from.

If there are any roofers or scaffolders out there in need of work, you might want to get yourself down to Tintern – this abbey could do with a LOT of work…!

My Year in Photos – May 14th – “Don’t be such a square”

May 14, 2010 at 7:48 pm

Today’s photo was taken in a beautifully sunny Leicester Square, which I passed through on the way to a meeting this afternoon. It was about midday so the sun had broken through the gloom and actually made me feel remarkably summery, for about the first time this year. If it hadn’t been such a manic week I might have stopped to enjoy the location a bit more. Hey ho – better to be busy than bored, I guess.

My Year in Photos – May 13th – “A slow photo day”

May 13, 2010 at 7:51 pm

Yeah, okay – so this may well have been the slowest day ever in terms of photo-worthy moments. I spent the entire day either holed-up in meetings or preparing for a big pitch tomorrow, so I only remembered that I hadn’t snapped a photo when I was nearly home. What can I say – so I’m not perfect. Meh.
