My Year in Photos – May 31st – “That’s flash advertising, that is!”

May 31, 2010 at 8:05 pm

Robert and I were looking around the newly-refurbished ‘The Entertainer’ shop today, where I spotted this bubble machine with a dubious claim on it. The box’s strapline claims the makes “Up to 10 thousand bubbles in minutes” – but the machine is actually called the “Billion Bubbles generator”. I know this is very nerdy, but even if you take the top claim at it’s word, you’d have to leave the machine on for 70 days non-stop before you even got CLOSE to a billion – and even that is going on the assumption that we’re talking a US billion…

My Year in Photos – May 30th – “Best. Invention. EVER!”

I saw these chocolate bars in Sainsburys today (well, Sara saw them first – credit where it’s due, etc etc) and had to take a photo. What a brilliant idea!

My Year in Photos – May 29th – “You want Dubai some salt?”

May 30, 2010 at 1:29 pm

We had a busy day today – well, busy by our standards anyway. As well as going to one of Robert’s friends’ 2nd birthday party (I thought I’d better not post a photo from that – some people can be funny about pictures of their kids!) we also met up with our friends Jo and Alex, who are currently living in Dubai. Back over in the UK for a few family-based gatherings, they made some time to come and meet us for lunch in Henley, which is very nice. The last time they saw Robert he was just a few months old, so seemed to enjoy getting to know him again!

My Year in Photos – May 28th – “What would Joey Ramone do?”

May 30, 2010 at 1:16 pm

Today’s photo shows Robert in a new t-shirt – featuring the legendary Ramones. I say ‘new’ – it’s actually about two years old, and was kindly given to Robert by one of my colleagues in our Cape Town office, Rick. After Robert was born, Rick was so keen to get Robert in a Ramones shirt that he took a punt and got the smallest one they had – which happened to be 2-3 years old. So as Robert approaches his second birthday, he’s finally big enough to wear it without looking like he’s in a tent. Thanks again, Rick!

My Year in Photos – May 27th – “Life in the slow lane”

May 29, 2010 at 7:12 pm

Today I was up in Birmingham, visiting a client and kicking-off a new campaign. Rather than take the train, I opted to drive up to the midlands instead – you get less work done, but I tend to feel a lot fresher when I get there, for some odd reason.

My sat nav felt the need to take me along a lot of A-roads for some reason, which I’d initially assumed would take a lot longer. But the biggest benefits of A-roads was soon to reveal itself to me – parking spots every few hundred meters! These made for very useful stopping points for me to check my e-mails and make a few phonecalls – something which you tend to need to do quite a bit on a work trip!

My Year in Photos – May 26th – “The keys to my heart”

May 26, 2010 at 7:15 pm

Today’s photo is kind’ve ironic, as it’s of something that I’ve spent very little looking at today, due to spending 90% of my day in meetings. Hence me spending large parts of my evening looking at it instead….! I think that’s enough said – back to the grindstone…

My Year in Photos – May 25th – “Water mess!”

May 26, 2010 at 7:10 pm

Today I was lucky enough to get to spend the afternoon with Robert, as I’d taken a half day to allow Sara to stay at school for parent’s evening. Robert and I made the most of the sunshine by playing in the garden – mostly playing with Rob’s new play table. As you can see from the photo, he has very quickly taken to making a LOT of mess with the water part of the table, splashing in it even more than he does in the bath. Needless to say he had his dinner in just his undies…!

My Year in Photos – May 24th – “Wish I was there”

May 24, 2010 at 7:45 pm

After a day filled wall-to-wall with meetings of one kind or another, I got home this evening to a baking-hot Reading. Today’s weather was actually so warm that a plastic container that was left in my car at lunch time had actually melted – yes, MELTED, completely flat – by the time I got back in at 5pm.

Despite being such a beautiful day, the wall-to-wall meetings didn’t provide for very many photo opportunities, so as I sat at our PC this evening, I glanced across the front room and saw these three pictures – all prints by the Isles of Scilly artist Richard Pearce. I thought they’d make a suitable photo of the day, since this weather is REALLY making me want to visit Scilly…

My Year in Photos – May 23rd – “Monet… in Berkshire”

May 23, 2010 at 8:13 pm

Being another beautiful day, we headed out for a day in Beale Park today. It was absolutely stunning in the sunshine, including the lovely water garden they have, pictured here. It reminded me of Monet’s Garden in Vernon, which we visited just last year.
