My Year in Photos – June 20th – “Just relaxing in the garden”

After a long drive back from Somerset, we spent the afternoon relaxing in the garden. It doesn’t make for the most interesting photos / story, but it was very nice! :D

My Year in Photos – June 19th – “Stage invasion”

Today was the day of my parents’ much-anticipated annual summer party, held every year for the past 5 or 6, usually featuring musical entertainment by my lovely brother-in-law Neil. This year’s party was no different, with Neil’s band ‘The Sundogs’ providing a good few hours of skiffle-based fun. Earlier in the afternoon they were warming up and Robert decided he wanted to get involved. As you can see, he saw no problem with invaded the stage, at which point he stood at Uncle Neil’s feet and did a very impressive little dance. Hopefully there will be some video to follow, as you have to see it to really appreciate how cute/funny/impressive it was!

My Year in Photos – June 18th – “Lost in the suburbs”

I spent this afternoon driving from London to Reading, then from Reading to deepest Somerset, where my parents live. The journey didn’t go quite to plan though – not on any of the motorways or A-roads I had to navigate though, just on the road approaching Sara’s school, where there appeared to have been a rather nasty car accident. Unfortunately, it resulted in me getting completely lost in the suburbs around Earley. Though I suspect the victims of the accident probably weren’t that bothered by my plight, so I shalln’t go on about it much more…! :D

My Year in Photos – June 17th – “Under the bridge”

After the party to end all parties last night, I spent this morning in central-ish London retrieving detritis from the Tate and transporting it back to Chiswick. On my way between the two, our car stopped under the bridge just down the road from the Tate Modern – where this sight greeted me. It’s a really cool thing to find under an otherwise dingy bridge – as far as I can tell, it’s not an advert or anything, just a bit of… art?

My Year in Photos – June 16th – “Sunset over London”

Tonight was the night of the long-awaited and much prepared-for Tamar 15th Birthday party, which he held in a very snazzy room at the Tate Modern. The view you can see in today’s photo is the view we had from the room – looking out over the Thames to St Paul’s. It looks pretty stunning in the daylight, but as soon as the sun went down it took on an even cooler look. I particularly liked this photo (as opposed to others with less relfection) because the reflections from inside the room give the view an other-worldly feel – it looks like a large planet floating over St Paul’s, and the pink light on the left of the photo look slightly Aurora-like.

My Year in Photos – June 15th – “Not such a kick in the teeth”

I started today with two very unexpected pieces of news. The first was a request from an international client, which will end up with me being up and working at 3.30am tomorrow morning. The other came as I glanced at our calendar over breakfast and noticed the entry ‘Dentist H 8.30′ – an appointment I had completely forgotten I had until that point.

Fearing a hefty not-turning-up fine, I duly headed to my Dental surgery (pictured above) and was relieved to find that not only do I not need any work at the moment, I’ve also had my regular dental check-ups changed from 6-monthly to 8-monthly. What a total result! See you in 2011, suckers…

My Year in Photos – June 14th – “No Luke – I have felt your presents”

Two years ago tonight, I was returning home from the Royal Berks Hospital on my own, my wife and newborn son safely ensconsed in their hospital ward. It was one of the last quiet evenings I had, at least for the next two years!

Happy Birthday Robert! It’s been an absolute pleasure so far, if not a little tiring :D

My Year in Photos – June 13th – “Art for art’s sake”

Today was the day of Robert’s 2nd Birthday party, which was a bit of a blur to be honest! Lots of Robert’s friends and family came over for afternoon cream tea, Pimms, cakes and nibbles, with plenty to keep the smallest of them entertained. Robert seemed to have a lovely afternoon, as you can see in the photo above – Robert is demonstrating how to make the most of an easel when all the other surfaces have been drawn on!

My Year in Photos – June 12th – “It’s a piece of cake”

In preparation for Robert’s birthday party on Sunday, we spent most of Saturday preparing – tidying the house, shopping for food, baking cakes and scones, and putting this little baby together. The credit for the cake and filling goes entirely to my lovely wife, though I had a reasonable hand in the decoration you can see. I don’t think we’ll give up our day jobs quite yet, but it’s pretty good for a first attempt, right?

My Year in Photos – June 11th – “To the happy couple!”

Due to an early meeting in the east of Chiswick, I took a slightly different route to work today, via some of the back-streets of the area. As I was walking down one road, I came face to face with a CLASSIC bit of ‘street art’ – dating all the way back to 1981. It’s almost as old as me! It appears to have been done to celebrate the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana – I particularly like the small, ginger-haired child on the end who is spray-painting ‘Stay with me Diana’ on the wall. I’m very impressed that this has survived almost 30 years, never having been painted over. Well done Chiswick!
