My Year in Photos – July 31st – “A little off the top, please”

July 31, 2010 at 7:30 pm

Thanks to the mummy grapevine, we found out that a new hair salon in Reading (Koulla Swann) was quietly offering free haircuts to little children recently, so we decided to take Robert in for a trim today. He was a very good boy and sat still for the whole thing, and is now sporting a smart new haircut.

Don’t tell the people who did his hair previously, but the free cut was actually better than the ones we’ve paid for before…!

My Year in Photos – July 30th – “Doctor Who and sons”

July 31, 2010 at 6:25 pm

Today’s picture is a common sight in Chiswick these days. For the past couple of years, a few basement-renovation companies have been working their way down the street in Chiswick next to my work – usually a few months after another couple of companies have fitted the same electric gates on all of them. Most of them seem to be having their basements extended with swimming pools fitted – I guess renovating is cheaper than moving, these days. Either way, it makes me very jealous when you get a peek at the finished result.

My Year in Photos – July 29th – “Bring your son to work day”

July 29, 2010 at 7:56 pm

Today I was joined in Chiswick by Sara and Robert, who were taking advantage of Sara’s school holidays by coming along to have lunch with me at work. We were joined at lunch by a few of my colleagues, Sarah, Nicky and my lovely boss Tanya – none of whom had seen Robert (in the flesh) since he was about 2 months old! We had a lovely lunch, thanks for asking.

My Year in Photos – July 28th – “This is not a building”

July 28, 2010 at 6:39 pm

My Magritte-inspired photo title today stems from the fact that after I took this photo, my colleague Neil was told by one of the security guards that taking photos of or inside the building was prohibited. Something that none of the people inside the building knew either, but which means I’d probably not tell you what the building is or why I was there.

Oh, what a total Saga that is…!

My Year in Photos – July 27th – “Sign making for/by dummies”

July 27, 2010 at 9:23 pm

These two frankly-massive signs went up in our building today, to signpost the new toilets in the downstairs corridor. Aside from the stupid size of them, I have absolutely no idea what the “T” in the top sign could possibly stand for…?!

I respect the fact that they made the signs SO stupidly big, yet didn’t seem at all bothered that they were using a ‘symbol’ that most people will have absolutely no idea of the meaning of!

My Year in Photos – July 26th – “Drive, or the duck gets it!”

July 26, 2010 at 7:28 pm

Today’s photo depicts a character I got to know very well this morning, spending as I did around 2 hour staring at the ugly bastard. This Toyota van was the ‘car in front’ for most of my crawl to work – there had been an accident earlier in the morning at Junction 1 of the M4, so I spent the vast majority of my journey to work in a slow, first-gear crawl – not a fun start to the week.

Why anybody would choose to hang a dirty, ancient-looking Donald Duck puppet from the inside of the back of their van is beyond me…

My Year in Photos – July 25th – “Rob and Henry in da house'”

July 25, 2010 at 7:48 pm

My choice of photo today was between a shot of the DIY bannister work I spent most of the morning doing, or a photo from the toddler’s birthday party we all spent the afternoon at. Seeing as my DIY blog was never particularly popular when I used to do it, I opted for a shot of me and Robert enjoying Robert’s friend Oliver’s new Little Tykes house. I’m sure you will prefer that to the bannister shots…!

My Year in Photos – July 24th – “The Dude abides”

July 24, 2010 at 6:56 pm

Today’s photo was taken as we were walking in to town to do some shopping. Robert is very fond of these sunglasses, and I think they make him look like quite the mini-Dude. He even has his nappy sticking up over the rim of his shorts too, so I think we have a little fashion-victim in the making!

My top blogging tips – in video form!

July 23, 2010 at 6:29 pm

I recently did a small piece-to-camera (can you still call it that when I wasn’t actually looking at the camera? Hmm) for the IAB, as part of a series of videos they are doing with various Social Media council members. I chose to talk about blogging, and if you’d like to see what I said you can view the video on the IAB social media blog. Click the image below to see it.

For some reason, the microphone they attached to me looks like a small black Lego man has committed suicide inside my shirt – I think that adds to the (limited) appeal of the video though…! It possibly distracts attention away from my double chin too…

My Year in Photos – July 23rd – “This is not a brothel”

July 23, 2010 at 6:26 pm

As I was wandering the corridors of the Barley Mow centre (the building where Tamar are based) this morning, I stumbled upon a corridor I hadn’t been down before. With a building of it’s size that’s not really that unusual, even after 5 years of working there. But I liked this corridor – mainly for this amusing sign which one of the other companies have pasted on their window/door.

I might have to knock on the door and ask for it’s origin next time I pass – I hope it’s a joke. Not least of all because the building has a managed reception, so any punters getting to their door looking for ladies of ill repute would have to have been signed in, ha ha!
