Fatherhood²: 10 more great pre-school story books

March 16, 2011 at 8:22 pm

A few weeks ago I posted a list of my 10 favourite pre-school story books, based on the ones that Robert likes to read on a regular basis. At the end I asked for some feedback on what classics I might have missed – and I got a LOT of comments with books I’d missed. As well as that, the next time I went in to Robert’s room and looked at his bookshelf, I myself realised I’d missed several of his favourites! So I thought I should probably do a follow-up post with 10 more…

Once again, these are in no particular order, and simply serve as a way of me sharing some of our favourite bedtime reads for those of you that might be looking to expand your own libraries : )

Fatherhood²: Things I’ve learnt along the way – Photography

As a parent (and before, come to think of it) I’m often accused of taking too many photos. My retort has always been “the more I take, the more likely it is that I’ll get some keepers”.

As somebody who grew up with expensive film-processing and even more expensive point-and-shoot cameras, I still find it a real luxury that digital cameras don’t limit how many photos I’m able to take – so I’m still making the most of it!

Now that I have a constantly-changing and always entertaining subject to take photos of (with another on the way), I’ve probably become even more snap-happy – since Robert has been born I’ve taken (according to my camera) over 15,000 photos – though not all of him, I should point out!

Add to that the thousands and thousands of snaps I’ve taken on my Blackberry/iPhones, and I could probably make a pretty convincing flick-book-style montage of Robert’s 2 and a half year history to date!

I think some of you knew this day was going to come sooner or later. Today I can officially announce that, if all goes to plan, Sara and I are going to be parents again in the summer of 2011. I am writing this blog post on October 26th – the day after our 5 year wedding anniversary – and the day that we finally had confirmation that Sara is pregnant. After almost a week of are-we / aren’t-we confusion, a Tesco pregnancy test was the confirmation we had been waiting for (and also the most hard-to-open piece of medical equipment I’ve ever had to use, but that’s a whole other blog post…)

I’ve been thinking about turning this blog in to more of a “daddy blog” for over a year now – after Robert was born, Sara and I began to accumulate little tips and scribbled notes, most of which we’ve just been sharing with friends when relevant. At first I pestered Sara to start her own blog, but she was never that in to the idea so I eventually conceded that I’d be better doing it myself – she did, after all, have other issues to be worrying about!
