My Year in Photos – April 20th – “Looking down on the Globe”

I spent this afternoon doing a Tate double-whammy, in preparation for the Tamar 15th Birthday celebrations. The venue for our party is the Tate Modern, so a couple of us headed over there to check out the options we have for party spaces – today’s photo is the view from my favourite one, on the 7th floor. The room has 3 entirely-windowed sides looking out across the city, including this view of Shakespear’s Globe Theatre and the City in the background.

After that we got on to a Thames Clipper boat and whizzed down to the Tate Britain, where we were choosing which canapes to serve at the party – it’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it!

Annoyingly, the excellence of my afternoon was soon ruined by a gas explosion at Maidenhead which was stopping all trains leaving London on the main train line, so what usually would have taken me 30 minutes took me almost 3 hours! D’oh….

My Year in Photos – April 19th – “Somerset House”

I spent this morning at the IAB HQ over in Holborn, where I was speaking as part of their new “Social Media practitioner” education course – aka the superbly cryptic ‘Rising Voice’, By the time I finished it was well in to the sunniest part of the day, so I took the opportunity to take the trip back to Tamar Towers via a slightly different route. Instead of going back to Holborn tube and heading down the Picadilly Line to the District Line, I decided to walk down to the District Line instead – a walk which took me past a LOAD of excellent places, including Somerset House (pictured), BBC Bush House, Embankment, Cleopatra’s Needle and a few other nice spots too.

I think I’ll add a few of the others to my ‘London’ collection on Flickr. The best bit about the lovely sunny walk was that it didn’t end up taking any longer than the tube trip normally does, what with not having to make any changes or wait around for trains. Bargain!

My Year in Photos – April 18th – “The calm before the storm”

As I mentioned with yesterday’s photo, this next week is going to be a very tricky one for Sara and I, with no regular child-minding being available thanks to that pesky volcano in Iceland. So we have been very lucky today to welcome Sara’s mum Susan to the house, who will be looking after Robert tomorrow and (fingers crossed) possibly Tuesday too. We spent the afternoon chilling out in the garden, whilst I organised a delicious (if I do say so myself!) roast dinner for us all.

My Year in Photos – April 17th – “Yes, his name is Iggle Piggle”

I’m afraid today may be my weakest effort so far, photo-wise. We had a turbulent day all told, starting off with a planned trip to the supermarket falling foul of a flat battery (thanks Robert – please don’t play with the lights again!), followed by a valuation by the estate agents that essentially put our plans of moving this year on the back burner. Finally, my brother and his family are stuck in Portugal due to this volcanic cloud, meaning we have no childcare for next week – not the end of the world, but still an unusual problem to sort. None of these things made for very exciting photos (and to be honest, all of them distracted me from taking photos), so instead I have reached for the camera and taken a snap of the first thing I saw. Hence the ‘Iggle Piggle’ car being today’s photo. Hey, we all learned something anyway, right?

My Year in Photos – April 16th – “I’m bricking it”

Today’s photo demonstrates what I was doing at about 6.30 this morning – a time when I suspect most people reading this were still fast asleep. Having got up and had my shower, I did the usual and woke Robert up with his morning milk. As this week is the second half of the Easter holidays, Sara and Robert got to stay at home, so our mornings were a TINY bit easier – hence why I had time to construct this beautiful creation while Robert was fighting the urge to change his nappy!

My Year in Photos – April 15th – “Lights, camera, action!”

Today at Tamar HQ we had our resident photographer in to update our collection of press photos – the ones we also use on our very snazzy business cards. It was quite cool, though doesn’t make for a very interesting story I’m afraid. That’s also partially due to the fact that I’m watching the first leaders debate on ITV and trying to concentrate on that. Sorry!

My Year in Photos – April 14th – “Brick by brick”

Today’s photo was taken this morning when I was getting Robert up, before I left for work. It was then converted in to lego by the Lego Photo application on my iPhone, while I was having one of my regular app-comparison sessions with my colleague Jeremy at work. I think Robert looks rather sweet in Lego!

My Year in Photos – April 13th – “A world of knowledge”

After another busy day at work where I had very little time to do anything of photographic interest, I snapped this picture on my walk back to my car. The Chiswick public library is literally right next door to our offices, but I’m disappointed to say I’ve never even walked through the door. This is probably mainly due to the fact that I have very little use for libraries these days, having as I do a very large backlog of books I haven’t read at home. But libraries hold a lot more than just books, so I’m going to make a promise to myself to at least go in and look around some time soon. I may even learn something!

My Year in Photos – April 12th – “A big box of mud”

One of the gardening jobs we managed to sort this weekend (yet I only remembered to take a photo today) was the clearing of our vegetable box. Well I say vegetable box – unfortunately about a week after we planted the carrots and cabbages in it last year, it changed in to being a glorified cat litter box, when our cats decided to adopt it as their own. Fingers crossed they don’t decide to do that again this year – though wisely we have decided to stick to plants this year, filling the box with trailing lobelia.

My Year in Photos – April 11th – “Slow news day”

Being the last day of my holiday, we crammed as much DIY and odd-jobs as we could in to my last few hours off. Unfortunately, they were all rather un-photo-friendly – so subsequently you get a rather sweet photo of Robert (again!) today, taken while I was preparing our delicious Sunday Roast dinner. For some reason he decided to crawl under all the chairs and get himself trapped, which he thought (as you can see) was HILARIOUS! Kids eh? Bless ‘em all!
