My Year in Photos – April 30th – “I’ve done a Wallace”

My photo today is a strange one, as you can probably tell. Here’s how it came about:

As I was walking from the Tamar office to my car – a walk of just under a kilometer (I checked!) – I realised that I was walking at the same speed as this man, just behind him. I attempted to overtake him to avoid the awkward situation that always ensues when this happens, but he also seemed to speed up. I then stopped to look at somebody’s house, to let him make some progress, and he too seemed to slow down. I eventually accepted the situation and just hoped that he wouldn’t think I was stalking him – it’s probably a good thing that he didn’t turn around at the point above and spot me taking a photo of him for this very blog. I only did that because it reminded me of a story from Danny Wallace’s column/new book, honest! Well, that and the fact that I hadn’t taken any other photos today…

My Year in Photos – April 29th – “I spy with my MASSIVE eye…”

I spotted the scene in today’s photo this afternoon while glancing away from my monitor – I was a little startled to see a very big eye staring at me from across the room. My colleague Richard was ‘cutting out’ portrait photos that we’ve recently had taken for a new set of business cards – for some reason he was zooming in very tightly on another colleague’s eye. Rumours that he was removing wrinkles from said photo went unconfirmed, but I’ll tell you my opinion when the cards arrive in a few weeks time!

My Year in Photos – April 28th – “What a load of Bull”

Today I was up in Birmingham for a meeting with a client, after which I had a little time to look around the Bullring while waiting for my train. Sara and I have been to Birmingham before, so it wasn’t exactly an exciting new experience… well, that and it is Birmingham after all. But either way it was quite nice to do a bit more exploring, especially of the Apple Store in the Bullring! Today’s photo is of the fairly impressive rear side of the Bullring shopping centre itself, which seems to be covered in giant silver buttons. Very odd, but quite cool!

My Year in Photos – April 27th – “Ashes to Ashes super-meet-up”

I took today’s photo inside a discount DVD and Music shop in Chiswick – called “Dada” for those interested in the fine details, seems to be what Fopp became. Anyway, I was just browsing round (I’d actually only gone in there to check-in on Gowalla, sadly – yes, I know I’m a loser!) and spotted this copy of ‘Tipping the Velvet’ starring ‘Ashes to Ashes’ star Keeley Hawes. Then I looked down and tried to figure out who the actor on the front of ‘Vanity Fair’ was – before figuring out that it was ‘Ashes to Ashes’ star Philip Glennister, aka Gene Hunt!

This is probably a very lame coincidence, as coincidences go. But it tickled me.

My Year in Photos – April 26th – “The Secret Garden”

Despite not doing anything of much note today, I snapped this photo just before 9am, after I’d parked my car. This is the lake in the grounds of Chiswick House, which is hidden quite effectively by a very big wall, which runs down the road where I normally park my car. It’s a lovely peaceful spot (the lake, not the road!) and I’m planning on taking a short walk round it at some point – presumably when I manage to leave Reading stupidly early and get to Chiswick before 8am! Oh well, a man can dream eh?

My Year in Photos – April 25th – “You moooove me baby”

Now that Sara is back at work and deep in the heart of a new role, the days of quiet weekends are well and truly gone again. So Robert and I decided to let her have some peace and quiet to do some marking and planning this afternoon, and we headed out to the Harehatch garden centre. As you can see from the photo, the centre (and it’s farm shop) is surrounded by model cows for some reason, which Robert found hilarious. He spent a good 10 minutes going round and patting each one on the head, before running round in circles going “mooooo” a lot. Kids eh?!

My Year in Photos – April 24th – “All is well”

It’s such a lovely day today, we’re going to bust out the barbecue this afternoon – the first one of the season. But before that we decided to head north and have a morning out in north Berkshire (or is it South Oxfordshire?). We’ve driven past the sign for “Maharaja’s Well” dozens of times before, but have never seen what it actually is. So we swung a right on the way to Oxford and visted the Well in question, which is situated in a little village called Stoke Row.

The Well itself is quite amazingly intricate – I was assuming it would just be a fancily-named hole in the ground, but as you can see it’s actually an ornate structure, funded by an Indian Maharaja in the 19th Century. I’m sure you can look it up to find out the whole story – it’s well worth a read.

My Year in Photos – April 23rd – “Peepo!”

I took today’s photo just as I was about to read Robert his bedtime stories. Peepo is one of his favourites at the moment, so he insists on it being read to him almost every night. It’s such a nice book though, I for one don’t really mind.

My Year in Photos – April 22nd – “Springtime”

I don’t know whether this is just a coincidence, but it’s the day of the second leader’s debate on TV, and yet again I pretty much failed to take a picture of anything interesting today – though I managed to snap this shot on my walk back to the car this evening. Chiswick is beginning to look very spring-like at the moment, though there’s still a chill in the air when you’re not in the sunlight.

My Year in Photos – April 21st – “I’m not Storking you…”

I’m not at work today due to some emergency childcare issues – namely, our regular childcare is stuck on an island near Portugal with no way of getting home. So I decided to take Robert out in the sunshine to make the most of the upturn in the weather.

We headed to Beale Park which was delightfully quiet and bright, what with it being a weekday and all. Amongst the things we saw were these two storks, who look very elegant. What you CAN’T see, just below the camera shot is a large pile of dead and half-eaten chicks, which the stork is apparently fed on. I opted not to make today’s photo that, worrying for people’s sensibilities! :D
